Swaffham Relief in Need Charity -
Your Application

The Charity has sought to keep the application form as simple as possible.  But occasionally we need more information before giving help.  In those cases usually two members of the Charity will arrange to visit you to try and clarify exactly what you need.

If you have already discussed your problems with anyone, say a GP, a Vicar or a Priest or a Care Worker, it would be helpful for you to allow the Charity to contact them so your needs can be made more clear.

To make a claim as a general rule terms of the Charity are you have to be a resident of Swaffham for a minimum of twelve months and can only make one claim to the Charity in three years so make sure that your claim is clear and covers all your immediate needs.

Any claims received outside of these guidelines will be put before the Trustee’s but only in exceptional circumstances would they use their discretion in favour of such a claim.

The Charity would like to assure you that your claim will be treated with the greatest confidentiality and no information will be passed on without your written consent.  Even the Agendas for Charity meetings do not list names.

The Charity meets six times a year to look at applications for help. Once your application has been received it will be considered at the next meeting.

The meetings will take place during January, March, May, July, September and November.

Swaffham Relief in Need  -
Information Sheet

THE SWAFFHAM RELIEF IN NEED CHARITY was established to provide assistance to residents of Swaffham who find themselves in need of help.

WHY DO I NEED HELP?

You may ask why should I ever need help?  But life can bring unexpected difficulties, which can cause real distress to people who have always considered themselves to be independent and self-sufficient.  This might be because:

  • you have lost your job
  • you have become disabled or too ill to work
  • you may be trying to stay in your own home rather than go into hospital or a residential home
  • your kitchen appliances have all broken down at once and your savings are too little to meet replacements
  • you may have been re-housed but have no furniture or household equipment
  • your budget does not run to the uniforms the local school requires
  • you are returning to work after a long gap but have no savings to buy the sort of clothes you need for work
  • you are trying to get your life in order by re-entering education but do not have money for the books

These are ONLY EXAMPLES of the situations where people find themselves in difficult circumstances.  Your situation may not be covered by this list but you still may need help and a claim to the Charity from you would be equally valid.

THE HELP THE CHARITY CAN GIVE

The Charity does not exist to copy or replace other forms of assistance for which you may be able to legitimately claim from the State.

Naturally there is a limit to the help the Charity can give to any Swaffham resident.  It does not hand out money but if it is decided that you need certain goods or services then these will be bought and paid for by the Charity and delivered to you.
