Honorary Citizens of Swaffham
Swaffham Town Council has given out 6 Honorary Citizen awards to:-
- Col. Saul Harris (deceased)
- Col. John Boag
- The Suffolk & Norfolk Yeomanry
- Mrs. Toni Groom
- Mr. Jack Boddy (deceased) and
- Mrs Pam Buxton
The Town Council welcomes public nominations at the beginning of each Town Council 4 year term to consider Honorary Citizen awards. The protocol for electing an Honorary Citizen is as follows:-
- From the nominations only one Honorary Citizen will normally be awarded in a 4 year term (a maximum of two in exceptional circumstances).
- The nominee should be resident in Swaffham for 25 years or more.
- A range of significant contributions to the well being of the town.
- No more than 1 presentation evening for the 4 year term in conjunction with the Civic Service or the Mayors Reception.
- Minimum of 75% of Full Council must agree to the proposed Honorary Citizen and 9 Councillors must be present at that meeting.
- Nominees from Swaffham electors as well as Councillors, but the final decision will be made by the Council.
The last 4 year term began in 2007. If anyone would like to put forward someone to become an Honorary Citizen at the beginning of the next 4 year term please write to the Town Clerk, stating why you think the person nominated should become an Honorary Citizen.
